5 Easy Trails You Can Hike in the Philippines | Maya.ph

Filipinos today, especially young ones, are avid travelers and adventure-seekers. They crave being in touch with nature and invest in activities such as hiking, trekking, and mountaineering.

If you are not yet used to hours-long treks and uphill climbs, choose to join trips that tackle easier hiking trails and terrains.

Here are a few beginner-friendly places in the country for your mountain hikes this year:

Mt. Oro, 340 meters above sea level (MASL)

Mt. Oro is located in Rodriguez, Rizal. The trails here are covered in grass with some trees and shrubs under the open air. It is perfect for first-timers who want to experience a day hike since it is mostly flat while ascending slowly.

The summit is an open field and will give you a nice view of the nearby mountain ranges of Rizal and Bulacan. On the way back, you can also stop by the Payaran Falls to chill.

 Mt. Manalmon, 196 MASL

Mt. Manalmon is located in San Miguel, Bulacan. It might not be that high but the view and the adventures will excite any first-time hiker. The short trek includes passing through the Madlum Cave. You can also pass by a bridge over Madlum River or explore its rock formations upfront.

Because it is a part of the Biak-na-Bato National Park, there are other caves and rocky terrains in the area.

 Mt. Gulugod Baboy, 525 MASL

Mt. Gulugod Baboy is located in Mabini, Batangas. It resembles a pig spine and has three peaks. It has open fields, uphill slopes, grazing farm animals, and easy-to-follow trails around the area

The best reward is the scenic island view and scuba diving destination on the other side. There are resorts and beaches that will greet tired and sweaty hikers who would like to take a swim.

 Mt. Samat, 553 MASL

Mt. Samat is located in Pilar, Bataan. It has a cemented trail where you can jog, hike, bike or just walk. The summit is full of historical wonders such as old war cannons, shrines, and the huge cross called the Dambana ng Kagitingan with a World War II museum inside.

It’s an easy hike close to nature with historical landmarks as a bonus!

 Osmeña Peak, 1,013 MASL

Osmeña Peak is located in Dalaguete, Cebu. So if you go to Visayas, you can hike this easy trail in less than an hour with only small ascending slopes ahead. There are farm animals and small villages around.

Since it is the highest peak in Cebu, you will be rewarded with a view of the sea and the mountain range that looks like Chocolate Hills at the top.

The Philippines is truly blessed with several scenic mountains. There are a lot of easy trails you can hike before venturing to more thrilling escapades. Just make sure you prepare your gear before exploring the outdoors! Hiking bags, trekking shoes, comfy clothes, and safety accessories are a must-have.
